WOMEN'S RIGHTS

Women’s rights form an integral part of human rights and the recommendations and the ideas suggest to preserve those rights have been codified both at the national and international level and enshrined in the form of legislations and judgments. Yet, social exclusion, honor killings, female genital mutilation, trafficking, restricted mobility and early marriage among others, deny the right to health to women and girls and increase illness and death throughout the life-course.Sexual harassment, molestation, rapes, domestic violence and acid attacks are the realities in today’s times. We will not see sustainable progress unless we fix failures in health systems and society so that girls and women enjoy equal access to health information and services, education, employment and political positions.

CLAP provides legal assistance to women who are subjected to violence such as Domestic Violence, rape, sexual offences, acid attack and trafficking as well as victim compensation from government. The Legal service to women includes pro- bono litigation, support in Court proceedings, Representation, Referral service and in general, assists them to restore their lives. CLAP has also undertaken critical studies on various aspects of the law, notably a critical study on 498-A of the Indian Penal Code in Odisha. It has also worked and published various books on the prevalence of child marriage in the country. CLAP also closely works with the Maadhyam Woman Support Centre – a joint venture of the Police Commissionerate, Bhubaneswar-Cuttack and Institute for Social Development (ISD) – a body that aims to serve those women who are subjected to various kinds of violence. It is a shining example of a Government and NGO partnership with a goal to improve the situation of women in the society,

CLAP seeks to promote a societal environment where girls and women are given equal opportunities, eliminates discrimination, ensures holistic development and empowerment and enhances capacities.
